Executive Search Process
Benchmark’s philosophy and commitment is that each client deserves and receives the same level of service, attention, professionalism, responsiveness and results. Our search methodology is based upon the search being led by a partner from beginning to end. This makes certain that all stakeholders are in alignment on the key screening criteria to be used when evaluating candidates. Benchmark’s proprietary search methodology includes use of our Benchmarking Dashboard™ which provides a clear overview of status, candidate fit relative to search criteria and next steps.

By the end of…
Week One: approved search brief, targeted research complete, extensive recruiting underway
- Meet search committee to define key selection criteria, responsibilities and compensation
- Understand salient points and potential objections about the company
- Determine companies the client does and does not want us to target
- Complete research, start aggressive candidate recruiting and obtain initial market feedback
Week Two: first search committee briefing
- Discuss number of candidates identified and contacted (usually 75+ identified and 30 contacted)
- 2-3 candidates with write-ups are presented and reviewed
- Determine fit of initial candidates and proceed accordingly (client interviews or recalibrate)
Week Four: review feedback on candidates from client interviews
- Develop initial short list (3 candidates)
- Review new candidates and schedule for interviews
- Schedule 2nd and 3rd level interviews for initial short list candidates
- Conduct sensitive back-door reference checks (when possible)
- Benchmark continues to "raise the bar" and develop new lead and/or high quality back-up candidates throughout the search
Week Six: Focus on lead candidates and reference checks
- Solidify formal short list of three or four candidates
- Two to three hirable candidates and one back-up are selected
- Conduct extensive reference checks on the leads
- Provide reference check write-ups to client and choose the top candidate
Week Eight: Close chosen candidate
- Benchmark works with client to develop an offer the candidate will accept
- Benchmark delivers the offer and gains acceptance including start date
Post Hire: stay in touch with candidate and client through the first year
- Follow-up after the first week
- After first month
- And quarterly until end of the first year
